- What is the Internet?
The Internet is something that has completely revolutionised the computer
and communications industry like nothing ever before. It is the way
in which computers all over the world now have the ability to
communicate to each other almost instantaneously, creating a massive
network of computers. In order to connect to the Internet a computer
user needs a modem. The modem is the device used to dial into an
Internet server provider who then connects them to the rest of the
world! The modem is therefore one of the most significant aspects of
the Internet, as it is also the technology that processes analogue data
into digital data and digital data into analogue data. This therefore
allows the Internet to successfully transfer data from one computer to
another by passing it through the phone lines.

- What is the World Wide Web?
The World Wide Web is a major part of the Internet.
It is a collection of documents that is forever changing, which is only
available with an Internet connection. These documents are stored on
millions of computers all around the world and can be viewed by others
around the world once they are placed onto a server with a domain
address. The document is then available for the rest of the world to
see. For one to be able to view these documents however not only do
they need an Internet connection, a web browser is also required.
This is a program that allows the computer to be able to process the
documents information, and consequently allow the user to view it.

- What is the difference between the two?
Although the Internet and the World Wide Web work very closely with one another there is
certainly a significant difference between the two. The Internet is
simply the connection that allows a network of computers to communicate
with one another with the aid of a modem. The World Wide Web on the
other hand is what many would mistake for the Internet. When someone
says, "I need to search the Internet" what he or she really needs to
say is "I need to search the World Wide Web". After all it is the
World Wide Web that contains all the millions and millions of documents
viewed through Internet browsers all around the world every single day.
